Seattle |finale|

This is a continuation of a previous post...

It was our last day in Seattle and the weather could not have been more perfect. The sun was out, the skies were blue, and the need for a jacket was almost nonexistent. It was a great day to walk to Fremont. It wasn't that far of a walk, but the one thing we weren't prepared for were the hills that Seattle has. I mean these aren't your basic hills...some of these hills make San Francisco's look cute. Our walk through Queen Anne led us right up to the little blue and orange Fremont Bridge. We crossed the bridge and apparently walked right into the "Center of the Universe"... I loved this place already.

First thing on the list was the Fremont Troll, and were lucky to reach it with only a few people there. I was in the middle of my picture-taking frenzy when I faintly heard Tommy ask me to turn around to take his picture. When I did, I found him standing by a replica car from Ghostbusters equipped with its own Slimer. The timing on that could not have been more perfect.

From the troll we visited the actual "Center of the Universe" sign, and then went on the hunt for lunch. A decent burger later and off we were walking towards a piece of the Berlin Wall. We had tried to see this before the troll but as we crossing the street, a girl with her coffee climbed up to use it as a backrest. When we acted interested in her very historical chair she promptly asked us if she was "sitting on art or something"...yeah, something like that. This time we were able to see it without any obstacles, and it was well worth the second look. To get to the next stop we were using the greenway to get there when we stumbled upon the Brooks Headquarters. We are longtime cult followers of Brooks running shoes, and this was a big day for us. After a few minutes of gawking at the building, we moved on.

Gas Works Park was a featured segment on an episode of Sunday Morning, and has been on our list ever since. Today, we were checking it off and finally seeing it for ourselves. The clouds were starting to move in by the time we made it there, but I think it actually added to the whole scene. Gas Works Park is the old Seattle Gas Light Company that instead of tearing it down, they turned into a park. We walked around admiring the view of the entire city skyline from across Lake Union and around the plant ruins until it was time to move on. We stopped at Fremont Brewing before wrapping up our day in Fremont with a history lesson at the Lenin Statue.

Fremont was conquered and we had some major hills to climb to get back to the apartment. On our journey back we cut by the Space Needle one more time, and then went to the grocery store to pick up stuff to make dinner. After we ate Andrew took us on a tour of his work, and then back to pack our suitcases to fly out in the morning. Leaving the parks, campgrounds, and cities that we visit are always hard, but nothing is as hard (or as sad) as leaving family. Seattle gave us great weather and stories to tell, but our hosts gave us even greater memories.
